The 7th Universe

The 7th Universe begins with landscapes from the real world, yet attempts to lead our perception toward places that cannot be directly reached.

Rather than photographing the universe itself, I use photography’s ability to record reality as a way of reorganizing how reality is perceived. Roads, rock formations, oceans, and landscapes that exist on Earth gradually lose their familiar identities within the image, becoming traces of another, unknown world.

The series is not concerned with whether these places “look like” the universe. Instead, it asks what happens when familiar reality becomes unfamiliar—and whether we can still trust what we see.

Photography has long held a particular relationship with truth, yet an image is never simply evidence of reality. Perception, memory, and imagination also shape how we understand a photograph.

The 7th Universe is therefore not a photographic project about outer space, but a project about seeing:

When what we see loses its familiar name, how do we begin to understand it again?
